Tips and Ticks
Let's make this a fun experience for everyone!
Follow these simple tips for a smooth and pain-free portrait session.
Hype it up!
We often try to incentive our kids by offering treats and rewards once an activity is completed. (Don't worry - I've done it too!) However - this inadvertently sends the message that the activity is going to be something painful to endure or suffer through. Instead - Hype it Up!! Set the expectation that you are going to do something super cool and fun! Set a positive tone going in. And then celebrate with an extra treat at the end to solidify the good time!
What to Wear?!
Personality Portraits are meant to capture your child's personality in all its fun and whacky glory as it is right now. Kids are a blast! Let their silly shine! Although I typically recommend simple/non-graphic clothing, Personality Portraits offer your child the chance to express themselves. (don't worry - portraits are only from the shoulders up - so unmatched ensembles will not show). Regardless of if they dress themselves, or you pick their outfit - prioritize comfort so that they can relax and be themselves.
Be Happy - Not Hangry
The 2 biggest things that can ruin your child's session are being Tired and/or Hungry. Please be sure to plan accordingly. Try not to schedule a session in the middle of naptime. (I am very skilled with kiddos, but I can only do so much to make an exhausted/cranky kid smile!) If you are planning on eating after the session, be sure they have had a satisfying snack first so they aren't constantly asking to be done to go eat. Likewise, stay clear of messy or sticky snacks, hard candies or lollipops right before so that they don't show up in photos.
